Objects of Desire

Based in A202 in The Chocolate Factory1, Objects of Desire is a new venture by Meredith Kemp-Ghani who has over 30 years’ experience in commercial clothing design, working for suppliers to the UK High Street and European stores. Customers have included Marks & Spencer’s; John Lewis; C&A Europe; Wallis; Next; Topshop & River Island, to name but a few.

As a specialist in ladies’ wear she has worked on all kinds of fashion products including tailored suits and separates; soft separates; casual clothing and outerwear. Her work sometimes also extends to children’s wear and occasionally even to men’s.

Currently working as a freelance designer in the fast paced industry which is fashion, she has set aside some time to design and make items which could be described as ‘slow fashion’.

Indulging a long held passion for Far Eastern culture, she is working almost exclusively with vintage silks to create gorgeous luxury pieces of contemporary clothing to collect and keep; pieces of art which are infinitely wearable.

To complement these pieces she is also making accessories such as evening purses; hats and scarves. All of the items are made personally and can be bought as ready-made unique items or bespoke versions in fabrics and styles chosen from the range.

The Chocolate Factories in Wood Green, London N22, are a landmark development and hub of excellence for the creative industries in the UK.

The project started in 1996 when Collage Arts, an arts development agency, moved into the Chocolate Factory on Clarendon Road and converted several derelict floors of the Factory into artist studios.

What followed was a high demand for creative space and in 2002, Collage Arts renovated Chocolate Factory 2 on Coburg Road, next door.
