Julia Busuttil

I have always been concerned with the axiomatic and primal. I am interested in expressing rather than illustrating it in ways that produce a physical reaction. These can be concepts that are fundamental to the field of Mathematics or primordial sensory experiences.

To do so, I aim to make marks that are precise yet spontaneous, subtle yet bold, delicate yet dense.

Julia is a London based American-Maltese oil painter. She specialises in portraiture and abstracts. Having lived in the USA, France, Switzerland and the UK, and drawing upon her Maltese heritage, Julia brings an international outlook to her work. Her approach to her art is influenced by her scientific background yet maintains an instinctive affectivity. She resides in North London.

The Chocolate Factories in Wood Green, London N22, are a landmark development and hub of excellence for the creative industries in the UK.

The project started in 1996 when Collage Arts, an arts development agency, moved into the Chocolate Factory on Clarendon Road and converted several derelict floors of the Factory into artist studios.

What followed was a high demand for creative space and in 2002, Collage Arts renovated Chocolate Factory 2 on Coburg Road, next door.
