Laura Smith

Laura specialises in contemporary hand blown glass combined with copper. By combining the two materials she creates decorative and sculptural collections of work. Inspiration comes from the underwater landscape and the collision and often surprising cohesion of the manmade and nature. Her sculptural collections look at objects such as buoys, bottles or even disused oil platforms and how they become a habitat for nature to grow. Collections such as the ‘Submerged Buoy series’ reflect the evolving landscape of algae and crustaceans collecting on the manmade plastic buoys in the water. Recently launching her bespoke lighting has evolved her forms from sculpture into beautiful and functional lighting.

The Chocolate Factories in Wood Green, London N22, are a landmark development and hub of excellence for the creative industries in the UK.

The project started in 1996 when Collage Arts, an arts development agency, moved into the Chocolate Factory on Clarendon Road and converted several derelict floors of the Factory into artist studios.

What followed was a high demand for creative space and in 2002, Collage Arts renovated Chocolate Factory 2 on Coburg Road, next door.
