Yana Stajno

“When I learnt to paint in 2001, I felt as if I had sprouted wings.  I discovered Images can describe paradoxes and mysteries in ways that words cannot. I found that choices in colour and texture had the power to enrage as much as enchant. I was feverishly inspired by the Expressionists, the Vorticists, the Symbolists, the Surrealists.  Perhaps I fear the world is veering towards dystopia: that against all the odds, we have to stay alert.

Whether I'm painting or writing, I am attempting to construct narratives that are strange, funny and seductive, yet provoke disquiet. I attempt to ask questions which can only be answered in contradictory ways.  My current artworks are in charcoal, watercolour, pastel, acrylic and oil and there are a number of examples on this page. ABOUT US

The Chocolate Factories in Wood Green, London N22, are a landmark development and hub of excellence for the creative industries in the UK.

The project started in 1996 when Collage Arts, an arts development agency, moved into the Chocolate Factory on Clarendon Road and converted several derelict floors of the Factory into artist studios.

What followed was a high demand for creative space and in 2002, Collage Arts renovated Chocolate Factory 2 on Coburg Road, next door.
